HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Waves 12 to 16 feet on the north shores this morning, will peak tonight at 20 to 30 feet high and 10 to 15 feet on the west shores of Oahu. Waves will be even bigger on Kauai (25-35 feet), Maui 22 to 26 feet and Hawaii Island 7 to 10 feet.
These are life-threatening waves and should only be viewed on the dry sand. ONLY experienced surfers should be anywhere near these waves. Check with lifeguards before going in these waters.
A HIGH SURF WARNING is in effect until noon on Saturday. This warning is for the north and west-facing shores of Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai. The north-facing shores of Maui are also included in this warning. A HIGH SURF ADVISORY has also been issued for west-facing shores of Hawaii Island beginning at noon.
Forecast calls for some sunshine with moderate trade winds today, then weakening tonight through the first half of next week. Conditions should remain fairly stable with passing low clouds and light showers.
Rain chances increase mid to late next week as a front moves slowly across the islands. The trade wind flow will gradually weaken due to this front over the weekend, becoming light and variable by Monday.
Minimal rainfall is expected over the next several days. Rainfall, if any, will remain isolated and over windward regions. As the winds weaken on Saturday and Sunday, a few afternoon pop-up sea breeze showers are possible.
If you’re heading to the beach this Thanksgiving weekend, remember to be vigilant and check with lifeguards first.
In the long term, we’re monitoring a weak front approaching the state by Thursday of next week. An increase in showers is expected from the front, but rain will still be limited across the state. Check back here often for the latest First Alert Forecast.
